In Belize City, Belize
Build for Change is a program that provides housing for the poorest of the poor. Hand in Hand Ministries has built over 90 homes with plans for more in 2008
The Hand in Hand Ministries Outreach Center provides medical care and hope for 15 children and 38 families affected by or infected with AIDS/HIV in Belize City. This is the only facility of its kind in the entire country. Medicine, nutritious meals and education are part of a holistic approach.
Other programs in Belize include the feeding and cafeteria program for elementary and high schools. Support of the Catholic Diocesan Child Development Center provides daycare for preschoolers. Hand In Hand Ministries also provides special scholarship programs for 20 students in the area, along with medical aid for the poor.
In Managua, Nicaragua
Hand In Hand Ministries opened an office in Managua August 6, 2005 to further aid our partner’s programs.
The Hand In Hand Ministries Pathway to Change Program provides tuition,
books and assistance for a private school education for selected
children from poor families. This year we have 55 children enrolled and have been notified that many made the honor roll in their schools.
The Center for Bread and Love provides education, two meals a day and mentoring for 300 children near the Mercado Oriental, one of Managua’s poorest neighborhoods. Another program, Young Mothers, teaches parenting skills and self-esteem to adolescent mothers, some as young as 12.
In Central America and the Caribbean
Hand in Hand Ministries supports programs that provide fresh water for the poor in Haiti and educational and housing assistance for 20 Guaymi Indian students in Costa Rica. It has also supported feeding and medical care programs in Jamaica.
In Appalachia, Hand In Hand Ministries operates the The Auxier Center, providing educational opportunities for local residents, including computer training and assistance with basic lifetime skills and providing them a chance to start a new life with new skills.
Hand In Hand Ministries’ volunteers and support are making a difference in some of the poorest rural areas in the United States. Projects have included renovation of several homes around Prestonsburg, Kentucky and converting a schoolhouse into a community center in Little Mud, Kentucky.
