The first "Bologna for Belize" fundraiser was held January 7 at the home of Rich and Natalie Tinsley and also hosted by Kevin and Kristy Greenwood. Everyone had a great time, enjoyed the fun and friendship. Kevin and Kristy leave January 15 for Belize and because of the generosity of those attending, will be able to plumbing and more to the home they're building for Hadiya Bevins, her children and elderly mother.
More than $6,000 has been raised for this event and we're keeping the attached donation page open until the end of the month!

The eighth annual Legacy Breakfast was held in Louisville, Kentucky at The Olmsted. Once again nearly 400 friends and supporters joined many new faces in celebrating the accomplishments of Hand in Hand. Arelys, a young Hand in Hand Scholarship student, travelled from Nicaragua to thank those attending for giving her a chance she would never otherwise have at a better life. Connie came from Appalachia to talk about how much more Hand in Hand has meant to her. Their stories left all attending with a new appreciation of how Hand in Hand makes a difference in the world.

Kera's House Blessing in Belize

When Kera was handed the keys to her new home in Belize her eleven year old boy cried. Anglela, a mother with two kids in Chicago cried. Angela’s father cried. During this emotional house blessing Kera shared some thoughts, she said “all my life I thought no one loved me, no one cared, but you cared and you loved me and my kids so much to provide us with a home of our own where we would have stability, security, love, respect . . . you gave me a once in a lifetime opportunity to really get my life on track and be a dedicated parent to my kids.” Kera cried.

This is just one of the hundreds of lives that have been impacted by volunteers and donors who make the work of Hand in Hand possible. Kera got her house because Angela has a special gift and a generous heart. Her gift is Zumba (a form of fitness training). She heard about us through her father, Dr. Manuel Grimadli. His gift is medicine. Together, they made a dream come true for Kera when Angela inspired 88 friends to join her for a Zumbathon. Together, she and her friends raised enough money to buy the materials to build a complete house for Kera.
Building this house was a team effort: a team that included former house recipients, a future recipient and volunteers from Chicago, Buffalo, Tampa and Louisville. Like all homes built, or repaired by Hand in Hand, love and several bent nails were hammered into the walls.

Supporting Hand in Hand Ministries is also a team effort. We need volunteers to go on trips, to provide office support, to assist with our gifts-in-kind program and to be ambassadors for our program. We need donors, willing to share their treasure with us. It doesn’t matter if you can write a check for $10 or $10,000. It all helps! Most of the gifts for Kera’s house were just $20. Each of us has the power to change the world – one person – one gift at a time.
During this Holiday season, reflect on your special gifts, and how you might use them to change a life. Click on the Donate Now button to the left to make a difference this holiday season.
