Denny and Susan Sweeney Crum host HHM's Backyard "Splash" Bash

More than 130 friends of Hand in Hand Ministries enjoyed a wonderful (though wet) afternoon as guests of Denny and Susan Sweeney Crum at their home in Louisville.

Special thanks go out to Uncle Smiley's Barbecue, who kept the barbecue, burgers and hot dogs coming all afternoon. Save-A-Lot grocery along with Frito-Lay and Coca Cola donated chips, drinks and more. The Remedy was unable to play due to the weather, but kept spinning tunes all afternoon. Molly Malone's, St. Matthews, donated a wee bit of brew and bartending services for the day.

Despite the weather, all had a good time. The raffles, auctions and autograph session from Coach Crum brought in a sizable donation that will go directly to the programs of Hand in Hand Ministries.

Thanks again for all of those who braved the rain and helped make this a great event.

And again thanks to Denny and Susan Sweeney Crum for opening their home and hearts to HHM.

Austin Age joins The Auxier Center

Hand in Hand Ministries has hired one of its own volunteers to supervise construction, maintenance and host immersion groups at The Auxier Center in eastern Kentucky. Austin began his new duties on March 26 as Director of Operations.

Austin, who has a master’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Louisville, has volunteered numerous hours at the center in recent years and is familiar with the facilities and how immersion trip groups operate. Along with his engineering degree, Austin is also very experienced in general.

HHM has also promoted Gail Spradlin, who’s worked at the center since before it became part of HHM, to Interim Director. Gail, an Auxier resident, is responsible for community relations, the Food Pantry, office operations and the various sewing, quilting and educational classes. She will also be more involved with immersion groups.

Gail and Austin will continue the wonderful work begun by Sue and Charlie Schaffer.

Community shows its generosity at 6th annual Legacy Breakfast

Over 400 people attended the 6th annual Hand in Hand Ministries Legacy breakfast November 4 at the Olmsted in Louisville. Glenn Horn from Inez, Kentucky, and Monique from Belize City, Belize, provided personal accounts of how HHM changes lives and saves lives. Both received standing ovations for their moving stories. A record-number 41 people joined the Legacy Society, pledging a minimum of $1,000 a year for five years. Legacy Society donors help give HHM the ability to make long-range program plans. If you would like to join the Legacy Society, contact Marla Cautilli at the the HHM office at 502.459.9930 or email her at marla@hhministries.com.
